     Dear (prospective general session participant):

You are cordially invited to attend the general session of
the first Workshop on Artificial Intelligence in
Medicine(AIM) , at which existing computer systems and new
methods in this emerging field of biocomputing will be
presented. The purpose of the general session is to
encourage discussion on the utilization of advanced computer
science techniques in medical consultation , model building,
psychiatric/psychological interpretation and biochemical
system analysis and synthesis, and to disseminate the
results of recent research on these topics.

Because of the desire to encourage discussion and
interaction among the participants, the size of the session
will be limited to 100-150 persons. Attendance is by
invitation only, and we have attempted to select a group
that includes:researchers who will be in a position to
assess the applicability of advanced methods of computer
science (and particularly of artificial intelligence) in
their own areas; computer scientists who can advise on the
potential of their methods in the biomedical areas, and
investigators interested in the use of computers in the life
sciences who wish to keep abreast of recent developments in
this field.

The enclosed schedule gives an outline of the day's
activities. Please return the enclosed card to indicate if
you expect to participate. We will then mail you a more
detailed package with program content and procedural
information about one month prior to the session. Also ,
please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any
questions.

We hope that you will be able to attend.

Sincerely yours,
